Easter at the Gift

The Stawell Athletic Club is proud to present an action-packed carnival over the whole of the Easter weekend. 

The Australia Post Stawell Gift is a professional footracing meeting with sixty-six events over three competition days, culminating in the “Australia Post Stawell Gift” race with a winner’s cheque of $40,000. In all, more than $100,000 of prize money is up for grabs over the weekend, with much more working its way through the bookies ring.

The following is an outline of the typical annual carnival schedule, however different activities are added each year, so please check in regularly at www.stawellgift.com to ensure you don’t miss anything!

Friday – The Stawell Gift Calcutta
The Calcutta and Call of the Card has been a feature of the Stawell Gift since the 1940's. The draw is released, raffle tickets bought and the action begins when the auctioneer calls for bids for each heat. Held at the Stawell Town Hall, the Calcutta is a true punter's night.

Saturday – The Driscoll, McIllree & Dickinson Ladies Day
This is ‘festival’ day at Central Park with entertainment for the whole family. Activities include a fashion parade, Fashions on the Field with $1000 up for grabs for the best dressed lady, a betting ring, champagne bar and live music. The action on the track includes the heats of the Australia Post Stawell Gift.

Sunday – Stawell Regional Health Family Day
Plenty of action for all the family including a children’s activity tent with live performances, a baby animal nursery for the little ones and some fast paced fitness fun for the older kids. There are also Little Athletics races and kids coaching clinics scheduled into Sunday’s program.

 

Monday - Australia Post Finals Day
The carnival culminates with the final of the Australia Post Stawell Gift, complete with a winner’s cheque of $40,000. The Australia Post Stawell Gift is televised live on Channel Ten with the broadcast capturing the history and tradition of the event, showcasing regional Victoria and the colour and excitement of the Stawell Gift Carnival.

2011 Special Announcement
In 2011, due to Easter Monday falling on Anzac Day, the carnival will be extended by one day with the final day being run on Tuesday 26 April (a gazetted public holiday). Keep an eye on the timetable page under 2011 Gift Info for further details.
