JACK HALE TO DON THE SASH AT STAWELL

Date: 18th March 2015

Tasmanian sprint sensation Jack Hale has confirmed he will compete in this year’s Woolworths Stawell Gift.

Hale, who is currently ranked the seventh fastest youth in the world according to the International Association Athletics Federations (IAAF), will be one of the youngest runners in the field as he competes against men of all ages to take out the iconic race.

The 16-year-old broke the national under-18 record for the 100m in Hobart last September and won the Under-18 100m & 200m sprints at the National Junior Athletic Championships over the weekend to secure a place at the World Youth Championships in Colombia in July.

Hale said he was honoured to be making his debut on the hallowed turf of Stawell’s Central Park this Easter.

“It is really big for me to be running at Stawell and something that I have been looking at over the past couple of years,” Hale said.

“It will be a really good experience for me to be competing against some of the veterans of pro-running. If I am one of the backmarkers I hope to run some of them down and also focus on running a good time.”
