Ballarat 15-year-old Grace O’Dwyer took out the $40,000 prize money for the Australia Post Women’s Gift in a time of 13.40 seconds, making her the second youngest person to win the event. The Ballarat Grammar Year 10 student held her form and nerve to come home strong over the last 20m.
O’Dwyer, who was overcome with emotion following her final, credited her father and coach Peter O’Dwyer with the win. This was the second win in as many years for the Ballarat coach, with 2014 winner Holly Dobbyn also part of his large stable.
