Exciting announcement for the 2016 Woolworths Stawell Gift

The Woolworths Stawell Gift is excited to announce that the total prize pool for the Newmarket Gold Lorraine Donnan Women’s Handicap 400m race has received a significant boost, jumping from $1425 to $4000.

The Newmarket Gold Lorraine Donnan Women’s Handicap 400m will now equal that of the men’s ASICS Bill McManus Backmarkers 400m race.

Over the years, the race has seen a number of renowned athletes take part, including Cathy Freeman in 1995, who produced the first of her two stunning wins off scratch, two-time world Champion Jana Pittman (2014) and Australian Olympian Tamsyn Lewis (2008).

Previous winners also include Ali Trewartha, Celia Cosgriff, Kendra Hubbard, Tamara Hammond and Jayne McMeel.

This exciting increase of prize money provides extra incentive for all female athletes to participate, simultaneously giving an overall boost to the 2016 Woolworths Stawell Gift carnival.

The Newmarket Gold Lorraine Donnan Women’s Handicap – 400m final will take place on Monday, March 28 at Central Park, Stawell.
