The 135th edition of the Woolworths Stawell Gift is gearing up to be an exciting weekend of racing, starting with the heats of both the Australia Post Women’s Gift and the Woolworths Stawell Gift on Easter Saturday.
The Woolworths Stawell Gift early favourites are Tasmania’s sprint star Jack Hale (3.25m), Tjimarri Sanderson-Milera (5.75m) and Stuart Rooke (8.5m), who are among the strong field of athletes hoping to take home the $40,000 cheque.
With the increased prize money of the Australia Post Women’s Gift totalling $60,000, is further incentivising the females as they endeavour to proceed through the Saturday’s heats and onto Finals Monday. Australia’s fastest female sprinter Melissa Breen will have a challenging task from scratch as she aims to win a second title. Ararat’s Sarah Blizzard, running off 7.5m will be the one to watch as her form has been incredibly strong, including a recent PB. Jessica Payne (9m) and Tierra Exum (9.75m) are also claiming early favouritism.
The 135th edition of the Woolworths Stawell Gift carnival kicks off tomorrow with Calcutta and Call of the Cards at the Stawell Entertainment Centre.
