Stawell VIC, Feb 5, 2018: The 137th Stawell Gift will be held at Central Park, Stawell in Victoria over the Easter long weekend culminating in the men’s and women’s Gift finals on Monday April 2, 2018.
Australia’s richest footrace is hoping to top last year’s record number of entries and visitors are expected to be in excess of 10,000 over the three days.
Hosted by the Stawell Athletic Club, the Stawell Gift Carnival, including the iconic Stawell Athletic Club Stawell Gift and the Australia Post Women’s Gift, will be broadcast live nationwide on the Seven Network on Easter Monday.
This year Australia Post celebrates 24 years of supporting the Stawell Gift. To show their support for gender diversity and equality, for the past four years Australia Post has provided equal prize money for the Australia Post Women’s Gift. Prize money for each Gift winner is $40,000.
In his first year as Stawell Athletic Club President Kieren McIntosh is keen to make this the most successful Gift which will not only benefit the Club but continue the reputation the event has with athletes and spectators around Australia and internationally.
“I’m thrilled to be leading the Club this year and we are looking forward to what is the highlight of the Victorian Athletic League calendar. This is a unique event, steeped in tradition and everyone who participates just loves it. And it is not just the athletes who strive to be part of Australian racing history, all our visitors enjoy three days of fashion, fun and festivities,” said Mr McIntosh.
The Stawell Gift Carnival is supported by the Victorian Government.
“The Andrews Labor Government is proud to support the annual Stawell Gift – and we encourage all Victorians to get along to this fantastic race to witness first hand where champions of the track are born,” said the Minister for Sport, The Hon. John Eren MP.
Fashions on the Field will once again take centre stage at the Stawell Gift Carnival on Easter Saturday (March 31, 2018) with $2500 in prize money and gifts up for grabs.
