10 YEARS OF SPONSORSHIP BY AWARD WINNING GRAMPIANS ESTATE WINERY

In its 10th year of sponsoring the Stawell Gift, Grampians Estate Winery has announced it has been awarded Champion Small Winery at the 2018 Australian Small Winemakers Show for the second year running.
The local vineyard has also received a 5 red star rating in the highly regarded Halliday 2019 Wine Companion, putting Grampian Estates in the top 8% of wineries in Australia.
Chief winemaker at Grampians Estate Tom Guthrie was thrilled with the reaction to his wines by the Small Winemakers Show judges.
The chairman of the wine show’s judging panel Jim Harre said: “I am delighted to present what is a stunning collection of awarded wines…In a world that increasingly seems to only reward large volume production, it is refreshing to find the opposite in a wine show that is also dedicated to excellence and craftsmanship.”
The 2018 wine show received 1033 entries from over 200 wineries across Australia. “The Champion Small Winery Trophy is judged on a winery’s top 3 wines. From 8 entries, Grampians Estate was awarded 4 Gold Medals: the 2017 Streeton Reserve Shiraz, the 2017 Grampians GST (top Gold), the 2017 Grampians Tempranillo (top Gold) and the 2017 Grampians Cabernet (top Gold). Where more than one gold is awarded in a class, a taste-off is conducted to determine the top gold, which is then awarded extra points. The Cabernet also won the Preben Jacobson Stewards Choice Trophy for the best gold medal wine of the show.”
Two Grampians Estates wines have been rated by Hallidays with 95 points: the 2015 Streeton Reserve Shiraz and the 2016 Grampians GST.
2019 is the tenth year that Grampians Estate has been a major sponsor of the Stawell Gift. In 2018 the winery was involved in the Grampians Estate Fashions on the Field, the Grampians Estate WH Earle Handicap over 550m, and sponsorship of the Presidents Lunch.
“We are proud to be involved in this iconic and historic local event which is beamed live around Australia and Asia on Channel 7,” said Tom. “The Fashions on the Field is a hotly contested event every year and we are always delighted to award our magnificent Grampians Estate sparkling to the winners of both the fashion parade and the Stawell Gift finals.”
