An update from the Victorian Government regarding Covid-19 in Greater Brisbane

Date: 31st March 2021

Victoria designated the greater Brisbane area of Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Logan, Ipswich, Stradbroke Island and Bribie Island a COVID Red Zone under Victoria’s ‘traffic light’ travel permit system from 6pm, Monday 29 March.

Anyone currently in Victoria who was in Greater Brisbane (City of Brisbane, City of Ipswich, Logan City, Moreton Bay Region, Redlands City) since 12 March must isolate, get a coronavirus test within 72 hours, and stay isolating until they receive a negative result.

The Chief Health Officer has also declared the Gladstone Region in Queensland and Byron Shire in NSW, as orange zones under the travel permit system.

Anyone currently in Victoria who was in the Gladstone Region in Queensland and Byron Shire in NSW, since 26 March must isolate, get a coronavirus test within 72 hours, and stay isolating until they receive a negative result.

This decision has been made after several positive cases in the community, which has resulted in a three-day lockdown of greater Brisbane which commenced at 6pm on 29 March 2021.

Powercor Stawell Gift attendees, patrons, spectators and other stakeholders, including suppliers, who have come from a Red Zone are not permitted to travel to or return home to Victoria unless they have a Red Zone permit (for Victorian residents) or an  exception, Specified Worker Permit, transit permit, freight worker permit, or exemption (for non-Victorian residents). More information about the Victoria Travel Permit System is available here >> https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/victorian-travel-permit-system

Please note:

  • Travel ‘exceptions’ are currently in place to allow New South Wales border residents to travel to Victoria for specific pre-approved reasons.
  • Travel ‘exemptions’ are limited and only granted in special cases for reasons such as
    • an end of life event

    • returning home for health, wellbeing, care or compassionate reasons

    • caring for an animal on the other side of the border
