LLOYD STRINGER

Lloyd is regarded as the “grand old man of sprinting” and still competes in 70m, veterans’ events and small Gifts around the VAL circuit. In 1971 the 130 yards Victorian Professional Championship was held at Seymour. Hutchinson won the title from Stringer.

Some of Stringer’s notable performances were second in the 1978 Stawell Gift, plus he won the Jack Donaldson Handicap 220 yards in 1967, 75 yards Arthur Postle Sprint in 1968, and placed second in the McManus Handicap backmarkers’ 440 yards in 1969.

Just when it looked that Lloyd’s best years were behind him, he bobbed up in 1986 to win the Hank Neil Sportsman’s Handicap off 4.50m.

Lloyd ran second in the Bendigo Gift, while his brother Bob won the Bendigo Gift.
