Mick Goss was a champion distance runner from Tasmania.
He set a new track record when he won the Grampians Stakes two miles in 1939, and returning the
following year he again won the event and lowered the record once more.
In 1941 he succeeded in his attempt to break the World Professional two mile record when he covered the distance from scratch in 9 minutes 11.1 seconds. He ran fourth in the race.
