Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Martin Pakula – 2022 Powercor Stawell Gift
On behalf of the Victorian Government, I’d like to welcome you to the 140th running of the Stawell Gift.
We’re proud to support this event – it’s Australia’s oldest and most famous professional footrace – and it’s another reason Victoria is the nation’s sporting and events capital.
The Gift has come a long way, and with the support of our four-year investment of more than $1.2 million is set for an exciting future with great racing, a major sponsor in Powercor and the final day of the Gift broadcast live on Seven.
Over three days, you’ll enjoy some of our finest amateur and professional athletes competing for the $40,000 winner’s purse, with equal prize money for the men’s and women’s Gifts.
With both of last year’s winners Edward Ware and Hayley Orman back to defend their titles, as well as a number of past winners, we can look forward to some epic racing.
The huge influx of tourists and spectators over the Easter weekend is a significant jobs and economic boon for Stawell and the region. That’s a key reason we’re proud to support the Gift, and the reason why the Government is investing to support regional growth, infrastructure and events.
During your time in Stawell, I encourage you to explore the stunning Grampians region and discover the best the region has to offer.
My congratulations to Stawell Gift Event Management, the Stawell Athletic Club, Northern Grampians Shire Council and the Victorian Athletic League for delivering this fantastic event.
The Hon Martin Pakula MP
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events
